About The GEO Group Australia

The GEO Group Australia is the country's leading provider of outsourced correctional services, operating in NSW, QLD and VIC. Our goal is to deliver better corrections, and in doing so, create safer communities.  As a Registered Training Provider (number 3570), GEO offers a wide variety of training programs which are nationally accredited.

We measure our success in delivering ‘better corrections’ in two ways: against our objective of being Australia’s best provider of correctional services, as well as our ability to make these services better over time through innovation and continual improvement.

We measure our success in delivering ‘safer communities’ through our ability to successfully reintegrate the prisoners we release, with corresponding reductions in their rate of re-offending.
To reduce re-offending we apply the GEO Continuum of Care:

• We work not only in our correctional centres but continue our services out into the community to support our prisoners after release;
• We work not only with our prisoners but also with those critical to their rehabilitation and reintegration such as families, social networks and other service providers; and
• We work not only during our prisoners’ sentences but also afterwards as they leave the correctional system and return fully to their communities.

Our five values which deliver Better Corrections, Safer Communities are that we Partner, we Lead, we Deliver, we Measure and we Respond.

About Fulham Correctional Centre

Fulham Correctional Centre is located in Sale, VIC, 200km east of Melbourne.

Fulham has been continually managed by GEO on behalf of Corrections Victoria since opening in 1997. It is Victoria's largest regional correctional centre.

Fulham’s primary role is to safely and securely house up to 947 adult male prisoners and progress their sentence plans by delivering a comprehensive range of education, vocational training, reintegration and offending behaviour programs. Together, these lower a prisoner’s risk of reoffending and increase the likelihood of successful community reintegration. A current expansion project of the centre is underway.

A key area of Fulham's operations is the Nalu Challenge Community. Located next to the main prison site, Nalu's 68 prisoners benefit from an intensive program of community reparation, leadership/team work challenges and preparation for reintegration into the community.

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for permanent, full-time and part-time Clinicians (Provisional Psychologists/Registered Psychologists/Social Workers/Occupational Therapists/Counsellors) to join The GEO Group Australia’s Rehabilitation and Reintegration team at the Fulham Correctional Centre.

Reporting to the Senior Clinician, Clinicians work within an integrated practice framework, completing screenings, comprehensive clinical forensic assessments, and facilitating groups programs that address criminogenic needs such as treatment readiness, substance use, violence, family violence, antisocial attitudes and antisocial thinking. Clinicians also support remanded prisoners with coping and adjustment, mood management and development of prosocial skills.

GEO is looking for both experienced Clinicians with an interest in offender rehabilitation and Provisional Psychologists looking to undertake supervision in order to gain full registration.

GEO provides clinical supervision and professional development opportunities in addition to flexible working arrangements.

Skills & Experience

In order to succeed in the role you will possess many, if not all of the key selection criteria documented in the position description.

About the Recruitment and Selection Process

Due to the nature of the role of Clinician, in order to be successful, applicants will require exceptional administrative, time management and interpersonal skills. This position will involve direct contact with prisoners so applicants must have the ability to work directly with prisoners in a correctional environment, complying with the security policies and procedures of the Centre.

Applicants who excessively consume alcohol, who abuse prescription drugs or who consume illicit drugs are unsuitable for the role.

GEO will require applicants to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearances from Victoria Police and Corrections Victoria (at GEO's expense).

Applicants with a criminal history (including as children) would be unlikely to obtain these security clearances, particularly if the criminal history relates to serious criminal offences of violence (including domestic), drug related offences,  and white collar crimes.
